You know the old saying, “the early bird gets the worm?” Well, in this case the early risers can sometimes get the most gorgeous light. I don’t often get families to book a 7:00 am session, but as it turns out I was already booked for the evening of this labor day weekend and the matron of this family was able to somehow convince the rest of her brood that 7:00 am would be the perfect time to have their family portraits done. Well, she was absolutely right! As I approached the beach close to 6:45 am I couldn’t believe how absolutely yummy the light was. And that wasn’t the only advantage! Huntington beach can get rather windy as the afternoon and evening goes on and I have shot many a session there in cold and windy weather as the sun is going down. Not to mention the crowds that frequent this popular surfing and beach going spot – especially during a time like labor day weekend! Somehow the beach is far less crowded at 7:00 in the morning than it is in the late afternoon or evening! And one other bonus is that kids are often more fresh and ready to go right after they wake up than at the end of the day. So I would definitely be willing to haul myself out of bed to take advantage of all of these factors more often…if I can find some willing clients!
But this family had quite a few other things going for them during this session – plentiful cute families, adorable kids and love everywhere. You could just tell that they enjoy spending time together, and it came through in their photos! So pardon the even huger than usual post, but this was more like 4 photo sessions – 3 family sessions and a senior portrait. And with so many fabulous images to choose from I was hard pressed to narrow it down to this many! So bear with me and enjoy your sneak peek “L” family!
