Beautiful Family at the Beautiful Laguna Coast

I am always keeping my eye out for new places to shoot. I have a few favorite beaches in Laguna Beach (Victoria Beach, The Montage, Moss Point and of course Wood’s Cove). But I’ve never really looked much closer to home (in Newport Beach). All of these beaches are in South Laguna. Well, on Labor Day I promised the kids I would take them to the beach. I went with a friend and we headed for Crystal Cove – one of my favorite beaches. Well, they had just increased their prices for parking fairly significantly, and since we only had an hour or two, I figured it wasn’t worth it. So we headed towards Laguna. I didn’t want to drive too far as time was short and so my friend suggested I just take a right on Cliff Drive and see what we could find. As you can imagine on Labor Day, and a gorgeous beach day at that, the streets were packed and there was no place to park. We just kept driving along, hoping to find someone leaving, and we stumbled upon an empty meter at Heisler Park, right by Picnic Beach and Diver’s Cove. We were so happy to find a spot, and the kids loved that beach. The cove is sort of sheltered and the waves in Diver’s cove are small and perfect for kids to play and swim in. The water was warm and location just beautiful. And as I was out enjoying the waves with the kids, I noticed how the sun reflected golden off of the cliffs into the sand and the rocks were covered in a beautiful green moss. I imagined children perched on those green mossy rocks, vintage pails and seashells in hand. And families walking down that reflective sand, holding hands and reveling in their beautiful surroundings and in one another’s company. Or a bride and groom with the beautiful seaside vista spread out behind them like a jewel. Ok, so I have a pretty active imagination. But at that moment I decided I would have to try shooting here – so here is the end result of my first session at Diver’s Cove/Picnic Beach. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful family (or better behaved children for that matter). Everything I saw in my mind’s eye turned out just as I imagined it could – thanks to the lovely “S” Family!

Forgive the very long post – there were so many beautiful images to choose from and I love to show lots of pictures for my first time shooting any new place. (It helps future clients see what is possible!) Thanks for stopping by!
